Elisabeth “Liz” Chun Honored Today by Junior League of Honolulu | News
The Junior League of Honolulu (JLH) presents its 2011 Laura N. Dowsett Award to Elisabeth "Liz" Chun, MEd., this week. She has served the Junior League of Honolulu for nearly two decades.
In her honor, the JLH makes a donation to Chun’s organization of choice: Good Beginnings Alliance, Hawai‘i’s leading independent voice dedicated to ensuring all young children are safe, healthy and ready to succeed.
The Laura N. Dowsett Award was created in 1982 to honor a sustaining member.
“Liz Chun’s civic and professional career showcases the highest potential of Junior League training and service,” said Marcie Uehara Herring, 2010-2011 JLH president. “Her legacy of service is remarkable, and inspirational. Many of our members attribute their JLH commitment to Ms. Chun’s influence and example.”
Past Laura N. Dowsett Awardees, JLH sustaining members, Chun’s family and friends and colleagues from the Good Beginnings Alliance will be at the annual celebration by the JLH.
Chun is the executive director of Good Beginnings Alliance (GBA). She also serves on the Samuel N. and Mary Castle advisory board as well as the Hookakoo Corporation supporting conversion charter schools and early education in Hawai‘i. She is a past president of the JLH.
Laura Nott Dowsett was a founding member of the Junior League of Honolulu, and creator and first editor of the newsletter. She served as president in 1933-34. The annual award is presented to a sustainer who demonstrates the spirit of voluntarism, the value of specialized training, the effectiveness of advocacy, and the qualities of leadership developed in the JLH.
