Kaiser Permanente's Moanalua Medical Center Receives "A" Rating for Safety

Hospital Nationally Recognized as One of the Safest in the Country

HONOLULU, HI — May 8, 2013 — Kaiser Permanente’s Moanalua Medical Center has been recognized and awarded with an “A” rating for patient safety in a national report card issued by The Leapfrog Group, rating the hospital among the safest in the country. The Leapfrog Group is an employer-backed nonprofit group focused on health care quality.

The Leapfrog report card, also known as the Hospital Safety Score, exclusively measures safety by evaluating errors, accidents, and infections. Key process measures involved in determining the score for each hospital evaluated in the survey included the management structures and procedures a hospital has in place to protect patients from errors, accidents and injuries.

Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for children over one year of age. Child passenger restraints can reduce deaths by as much as 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers, but up to 80 percent are not installed or used correctly. Is your child’s car or booster seat installed properly? Kaiser Permanente wants to be sure your child is safe. Child Passenger Safety Technicians certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be on-site checking all child car and booster seats for FREE, by appointment only. Pre-registration is required, please call 432-2260 to attend. Note: Install your child’s car seat before your appointment and bring your car manual and car seat instructions.

Accuity LLP announced today that Sean Mochizuki has been promoted to manager for the firm’s assurance practice.

Mochizuki, who has been with Accuity LLP since 2006, has worked with a range of clients including hospitality, real estate, not-for-profits, insurance and employee benefit plans. A certified public accountant in the state of Hawaii, he is a member of the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants (HSCPA), as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Mochizuki is also actively involved in the community, serving as a big brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu. Mochizuki earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from the University of Southern California.

McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii Awards $25,000 in Scholarships to Ten Employee-Scholars

McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii has awarded $2,500 to each of its top ten student employees to help them pursue higher education.

“McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii is proud to award these well-earned scholarships to our outstanding employee-scholars and support their journey toward a college degree,” said Linda Rosario, a McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii owner and operator. “We look forward to watching these employees continue to grow as they work toward their professional goals."

This year’s $25,000 scholarship package is an example of McDonald’s Restaurants of Hawaii’s continuing commitment to reward hardworking employee-scholars. Since 1995, scholarship recipients have been selected based on academic achievement, community involvement and on-the-job performance. The winners, listed below, will use their scholarships at the following institutions this fall.

John R. Wooden Course Basketball Camp Builds Fundamentals for Life

HONOLULU, Hawai‘i (May 6, 2013) –Boys and girls ages 6 – 18 will have the opportunity to learn the techniques and philosophy of a legendary UCLA men’s basketball coach at the John R. Wooden Course Basketball Camp, held June 3 – 6, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at Punahou School’s Hemmeter Fieldhouse. Led by Craig Impelman, former assistant basketball coach at UCLA, the camp covers all aspects of the “Wooden Way,” including in-depth training in skills, team fundamentals and values. Punahou varsity basketball coaches will assist with instruction. Cost to attend is $200 per student, with online registration open until May 31, 2013, at www.punahou.edu/clinics.
