Tohoku University Hospital in Sendai, Japan is the beneficiary of a fundraiser titled “With Aloha” on Saturday, April 9 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Pagoda Hotel in the Ala Moana area.

Public invited to free screening of acclaimed 'Recycled Life'

Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated director Leslie Iwerks will screen her documentary short film "Recycled Life" on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Thurston Memorial Chapel on the Punahou School campus.

The screening of the 38-minute film begins at 6:45 p.m. and will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker. The free event is opened to the public and is part of Punahou's film-and-discussion series "Food for Thought."

Free campus parking is available for the event, which ends at 8 p.m.

Carolyn Ogami Fuller new Development Director for William S. Richardson School of Law

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai‘i Foundation is pleased to announce that Carolyn Ogami Fuller has joined the development team as the director of development for the UH Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law. Carrie Ogami Fuller will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of private philanthropic gifts to the School.

Carrie comes to the Foundation with extensive fundraising and legal experience. Most recently, she served as the assistant director in the Office of Gift Planning at the University of California, Berkeley where she worked for four years. Prior to this, she spent eighteen years in private practice as a family law attorney in Honolulu. During this time, Ogami Fuller operated a solo law practice and worked as a senior associate at the family law firm of Stirling & Kleintop.

The Locations Foundation Donates $10,000  to American Red Cross Hawaii

The Locations Foundation will be donating $10,000 to the American Red Cross Hawaii; a portion of the funds will be going to aid Japan, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands that were affected by the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami.

“The Locations Foundation wishes to express our heartfelt sympathy to those affected by the most recent natural disaster in Japan and throughout the Pacific,” said Mary Edu, president of The Locations Foundation. “We hope that our modest contribution plays a role in easing the pain of this tragedy and inspires others to give to the cause.”

Market City Shopping Center, Salvation Army helping with Japan relief efforts

Market City Shopping Center, Salvation Army helping with Japan relief efforts

The Market City Shopping Center and the Salvation Army are collection donations to help those affected by the Japan earthquake and tsunami on Mar. 11.

Donation boxes will be available at all participating stores at the shopping center. The donations collected will go to the Salvation Army's three relief teams that are providing care and comfort to the Japan victims.

In addition to donations collected, Market City will give $1,000 to the cause.

Student violinists holding concert to benefit Japan relief efforts

Student violinists holding concert to benefit Japan relief efforts

Sixty student violinists will be performing in concert at the University of Hawaii Manoa's Orvis Auditorium on Saturday, Mar. 26.

The event, presented by Suzuki Talent Education of Hawaii (STEH), will feature violinists from ages four to 18. The concert will also feature works from Bach and Vivaldi to Stars Wars.

Admission is free and donations will be accepted at the door for those affected by the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami.

The performance begins at 10 a.m. and is the Finale Concert of the "Suzuki Rocks!" Violin Camp.

"NERDS" Wins 2011 Nene Award

“NERDS: National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society” by Michael Buckley has been chosen by the children of Hawaii as the winner of the 2011 Nene Award.

The Nene Honor Book Award (runner-up) is “The Lemonade War” by Jacqueline Davies. Margaret Peterson Haddix, a multiple award-winning author of children’s and teen books including 2010 Nene Award winner “Found,” book one of “The Missing” series, was a special guest and made the announcement this morning before a large audience of invited dignitaries, students, teachers, and other guests at the 46th Annual Nene Award Presentation Ceremony, conducted this year at the Consolidated Theatres’ Ward Stadium 16.
